Ford Ranger

Questions: 00' Ford Ranger 4.0 with a clicking nouns in the lifter/tappets. Oil guage dropped while driving, topped past its sell-by date and sound appeared. Oil/coolant level good, power and gas mileage inferior before. What is the problem/fix?

If your getting smoke out of the muffler you could own cracked head, but the clicking would indicate worn valves/seats. Your valve may have be miss timed and are "running into" your pistons, caused by terrifically excessive rpm's! If you haven't tried some kind of motor restore product approaching Slick 50 or something then I would suggest that.
